Hydrotesting, Pigging & Commissioning
Hydrotesting (or hydrostatic testing) is a procedure used to check the integrity and strength of pipelines, pressure vessels, and other systems by filling them with water or another incompressible fluid and applying pressure above their normal operating limits.
Hydrotesting, also called hydrostatic testing, is a crucial procedure for verifying the strength, leak tightness, and reliability of pipelines, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and other pressurized systems. The system is filled with water (or another incompressible fluid) and subjected to pressures higher than its normal operating pressure.
Purpose :
- To ensure the system can safely handle operating pressures.
- To detect leaks, weak points, or structural defects before operation.
- To validate the design and installation quality of the pipeline or vessel.
Key Points :
- Water is usually preferred because it is incompressible and safer than gas.
- Pressure is applied gradually and monitored carefully.
- After testing, the system is inspected for leaks, permanent deformation, or failures.
